Lone worker

Monitor people working alone with a check-in cadence — a missed check-in alerts the monitor automatically and can text the worker a man-down "Are you OK?" SMS that they answer by replying OK.

Lone Worker keeps an eye on people working alone or in higher-risk situations. Each session has a check-in cadence; miss a check-in and the assigned monitor is alerted automatically, and the worker gets a man-down SMS they can answer straight from their phone.

Start a session

  1. Go to Lone worker and fill in the worker (pick from the roster or type a name), site, activity, and location.
  2. Set the check-in interval in minutes (default 30).
  3. Optionally enter the worker's mobile number — this enables the man-down SMS and reply-OK check-ins.
  4. Choose the monitor — the person alerted if a check-in is missed — and press Start.

During the session

  • Press Check in on the board before each deadline; every check-in pushes the next deadline out by the interval.
  • A session past its deadline shows an OVERDUE badge, and the dashboard carries Lone workers active and Overdue check-ins tiles.
  • A worker with a mobile number on the session can also check in by texting OK (or SAFE) to the program's SMS number — the board updates and they get a confirmation with the next deadline.

Close it out

When the worker is safe, press Close. Closed sessions stop monitoring and move to the recently-closed history at the bottom of the page.

What happens automatically

  • A background monitor scans active sessions every 2 minutes. When a check-in is missed it sends a missed-check-in alert to the monitor (or to the worker's name if no monitor was set), with a link back to the board.
  • If the session has a mobile number, the worker is texted a man-down double-check"Missed lone-worker check-in. Are you OK? Reply OK to check in." An OK reply checks them in and clears the alert.
  • The alert is sent once per overrun and re-arms on the next check-in, so nobody is spammed.
  • The 12-hourly escalation sweep is a backstop: any still-overdue session is raised there too, so a missed check-in can't be lost even if the real-time monitor isn't running.
  • Session starts, check-ins, and closes are all recorded on the audit trail.

Reply-OK and the man-down SMS require the SMS integration to be configured for your environment; the in-app alerts and the dashboard tiles always work.
