Emergency preparedness

This module covers OSHA 1910.38 — the Emergency Action Plan and its six required elements (1910.38(c)(1)–(6)), plus the evacuation-drill log. A drill is flagged when not everyone is accounted for or a deficiency is noted.

Build an Emergency Action Plan

1. Under Emergency Action Plans, pick the site, name the plan, and click Create plan.
2. The plan lists the six required elements — reporting procedures, evacuation procedures and exit route assignments, critical-operations shutdown, accounting for all employees, rescue/medical duties, and contacts for plan information — each with its 1910.38(c) paragraph. Tick the Covered box for each element your plan addresses.
3. The header badge counts covered elements and turns green when all six are done.

Log an evacuation drill

1. In the drill form, pick the site and type, and enter the duration.
2. Enter the expected and accounted headcounts, plus any deficiencies noted.
3. Click Log drill. A drill where people are unaccounted for shows a missing badge, and any deficiency highlights the row.

Follow up

• For a drill with a deficiency, click CAPA to open a corrective action; the row then links to that CAPA so the fix is tracked to closure.

What happens automatically

• Annual drill cadence: a site whose last drill is more than 12 months old escalates as Evacuation drill overdue, dated from when the next drill fell due.
• A site that has an Emergency Action Plan but has never logged a drill also escalates — No evacuation drill on record — because preparedness is unproven until it's exercised.

Tip: record the honest headcount even when a drill goes badly — the unaccounted-for count is exactly the leading indicator a real evacuation depends on.
