Compressed gas cylinders

This module maintains a register of compressed-gas cylinders under OSHA 1910.101/1910.253 — storage-handling checks (secured upright, valve cap on) and DOT 49 CFR 180.205 hydrostatic requalification tracking.

Register a cylinder

1. In the Register a cylinder form, pick the site and enter the serial number, gas, and hazard class (inert, flammable, oxidizer, toxic, or corrosive).
2. Set the storage location and the handling flags — secured upright, valve cap on, and in use / connected.
3. Enter the last hydrostatic test date and the requalification interval (default 10 years), then click Register cylinder.
4. Have a whole cage of them? Import cylinders from a spreadsheet on the import page instead.

Read the register

• Each cylinder shows a secured / not secured badge and a cap or in-use status, plus its hydrostatic due date with an overdue flag when past due.
• A cylinder with no last hydrostatic-test date on record shows requal date unknown and counts as needing attention — it can't be shown compliant until you enter the stamped test date, so it isn't silently treated as up to date.
• Rows needing attention (not secured, cap off while not in use, hydro overdue, or requal date unknown) are highlighted.

Incompatible-gas segregation (1910.253(b)(4))

When a storage location holds incompatible gas classes — most importantly oxidizers stored with flammables — a red banner appears at the top of the page naming each offending location, the classes involved, and how many cylinders are there. Separate them by at least 20 ft or a ½-hour fire-rated barrier, or move a cylinder to another location; the banner clears once no location mixes incompatible classes. The dashboard also carries a cylinder segregation violations count, and the condition escalates to the safety team.

Follow up

1. For a cylinder that isn't secured, click Mark secured once it's chained upright — or Requalified today to record a hydrostatic requalification done today, which resets the requalification clock.
2. Click Decommission when a cylinder is returned to the supplier or scrapped — it drops out of every attention count while its history stays.
3. Click CAPA to open a corrective action for any other follow-up; the row then links to that CAPA.

What happens automatically

• A cylinder past its hydrostatic requalification date escalates to the safety team by notification, citing 49 CFR 180.205. Set who's emailed for that queue under notification routing.

Tip: an overdue hydrostatic date means the cylinder is out of requalification — pull it from service and route it back to the supplier rather than refilling it.
