Radiation dosimetry

Log dosimeter readings, accumulate year-to-date dose, and grade it against the 10 CFR 20 annual limits and the ALARA investigation levels.

This module tracks personal dose monitoring under 10 CFR 20. Each wear-period reading accumulates into the worker's year-to-date (YTD) deep dose and is graded against the annual occupational limit for their worker class and the ALARA investigation levels (NRC RG 8.10: Level I at 10% of the limit, Level II at 30%).

Record a dose

  1. Go to Radiation dosimetry and use the Record a dose row at the bottom.
  2. Pick the site and the worker (from your roster), enter the dosimeter ID, and choose the monitored-worker class — it fixes the annual deep-dose limit: Adult 5 rem, Minor 0.5 rem, Declared pregnant 0.5 rem.
  3. Enter the wear period (start and end dates) and the deep dose in rem, plus any prior deep YTD so the running total is right.
  4. Add lens and shallow (skin) doses if measured — they accumulate against their own annual limits (15 rem lens, 50 rem shallow for an adult; minors get 10%). Click Record.

Read the dose status

  • Each row shows the period dose, cumulative YTD, and the applicable annual limit, with a status badge. A row at or above ALARA Level II flags amber; over limit flags red. Separate lens and skin badges appear when those YTD limits are exceeded.
  • Filter by Site to review one location's dose records.

Investigate a high reading

A reading that needs investigation — deep dose at or above ALARA Level II, or any channel over its annual limit — shows a CAPA button on the row. Click it to open a corrective action (ALARA review, work-practice change); the row then links to that CAPA.

What happens automatically

  • The YTD total and the status grade (normal → above Level I → above Level II → over limit) are computed as each reading is recorded — no manual re-totalling.
  • The dashboard counts monitored workers, doses above ALARA Level II, and doses over the annual limit.

Tip: always fill in prior deep YTD when you start logging a worker mid-year so their cumulative dose reflects earlier wear periods.
