Noise dosimetry

Log personal and area noise measurements; the app bands them against the OSHA action and PEL levels.

Noise dosimetry logs personal and area noise measurements under OSHA 1910.95. From the dosimeter dose it computes the 8-hour time-weighted average (5 dB exchange rate): 85 dBA triggers hearing conservation and 90 dBA is an overexposure requiring feasible controls.

Record a measurement

  1. Go to Noise dosimetry and use the Record a noise measurement form.
  2. Choose the Site and the Subject (pick a worker from the roster, or tick Area sample (not a person) for an area measurement).
  3. Enter the date measured on and the dose % from the dosimeter.
  4. Choose Record measurement. The TWA is computed from the dose — you don't enter it.

Read the bands

  • Below action level — green.
  • At action level (85 dBA TWA and above) — amber; the worker belongs in hearing conservation.
  • Overexposed (90 dBA TWA and above) — red; feasible engineering or administrative controls are required.
  • The table sorts newest first and shows the dose percent for each measurement.
  • The Hearing program column shows, for any ≥ 85 dBA personal sample, whether the worker is enrolled (green) or not enrolled (amber) in hearing conservation — both badges link straight to that page. A banner at the top counts the distinct ≥ 85 dBA workers not yet enrolled (1910.95(g)(1)), so nobody at the action level is missed.

Correct an exposure

Any measurement can be corrected with the CAPA button on its row to drive controls for that subject. The row then links to the CAPA so you can track it through to closure.

What happens automatically

  • Any measurement at/over the 90 dBA PEL escalates to the Safety Team — "Noise overexposure: (subject)" — because feasible engineering or administrative controls are required (1910.95(b)(1)), not just a dashboard count. Set who's emailed for that queue under notification routing.
  • Export survey CSV downloads the noise-exposure survey from api/noise/survey.csv — employees may observe and access their measurements (1910.95(m)/(o)), so this is a requestable record.

Tip: record measurements against a specific worker via the roster picker so you know exactly who belongs in the hearing-conservation program — then enroll them on the hearing conservation page.
